The 1930 United States Census records placed Eugene in the home of his maternal grandparents. His last name appeared correctly on his parents’ headstone which was used as Eugene’s cenotaph. Research into Eugene’s family background indicates that his last name “Fuzi” was written phonetically in lieu of its correct spelling, "Fuzy." This practice suggests that historical records of his service be checked against verified birth and death dates. ![]() Joseph worked as a tailor in a local shop in Lorain. The couple, natives of Hungary, had two daughters and fraternal twins Julia and Joseph, when Eugene was born. Joseph and Margiete Fuzi welcomed their fifth child, Eugene Dash to their home at 2845 Vine Street, Lorain, Ohio, on March 21, 1919.
